For tonight's entry, I have something a bit different for you. This is a video that my friend took when we went to the annual Steam Up Days weekend event in Wabeno, Wisconsin back in 2010. This is a video of a Phoenix type steam powered logging tractor, in use in the woods before WW1. These tractors were made in Wisconsin and used all over the north woods before gas engine tractors were put into use. These steam tractors were used in the winter to haul sleds full of logs out of the woods on ice roads. This tractor has wheels on the front now for use with no snow on the ground, but they were built with heavy skis on the front. This particular Phoenix had been on display since it was retired by the sawmill until it was restored to running condition. It is still on display in Wabeno, but it gets steamed up every year for the Steam Up weekend in July.
