I was going to write this post yesterday because it's been almost 3 weeks since my last community garden update. I discovered that I didn't have any current pictures to show you, so I had to go up there today and take a few pictures. I've gone up there several times this week to water the garden, but I kept forgetting to take my camera with me.
The corn is really growing nicely now, the stalks are getting nice and thick. Also, there's a lot of burgundy stalks as compared to the green ones, so the colors on the kernels of the corn cobs should be pretty interesting. Of course, I won't know until fall harvest.
The bean plants are also growing nicely between the stalks of corn. I had to replant some of the beans a couple of weeks ago because they didn't all come up, so the newer plants are still smaller than the first ones that sprouted.
The other side of the corn patch.
The squash and pumpkin plants are also doing well right now. The squash plants have a head start on the pumpkins because I started the squash plants in the greenhouse, and I planted pumpkin seeds in the garden.
The squash plants are starting to blossom now. These are a winter squash, so I won't be picking any of them until fall.
The red potatoes have been growing really well this year, the plants are large, and are starting to flower now.
The blue potatoes have not done as well as I would have liked. Perhaps I cut the seed potatoes up too small, but some of the chunks with eyes have not developed into plants. Still, I do have probably half of the plants that I thought I would get, so I will get some blue potatoes this year, I hope.
The blue potatoes are supposed to be a short season potato, so we'll see how they develop over the course of the summer. It will be interesting to see what I get from these plants this fall. I'm pretty happy with the progress of the rest of the crops in the garden plots.
That's all I have for this community garden update, thanks for stopping by to check it out!
