Hello, steemians! Welcome to my music room, eh!
For about the past year or so, I've been using one of the upstairs rooms in the house to do a lot of my music recording and open mic videos. The room has also been used for storing a fair amount of my crap that I didn't know what else to do with, but didn't want to get rid of. I've been slowly making more space in the room for my music equipment by finding room for the other stuff in the basement, or getting rid of some of it. When you're the type of person who likes to keep everything, getting rid of stuff is a long slow process.
I finally got to the point where I had the space to set up what's left of my P.A. equipment so that I could use it when I record a video. I think it's easier to balance the sound of everything that way if you're using electric instruments, or instrument playback to sing with.
For the 10 years that we've been in this house, the upstairs has been carpeted with a dark orange deep pile carpet, with a foam pad under the carpet. The carpet was in the house when my housemate bought it. The carpet is nice to walk on, but it does not lend it's self well to setting things on it, with the foam under pad, some things are less stable. I found it difficult to get my speakers to be stable on the carpet when a milk crate was set under the speaker to raise it off the floor for better sound. I was trying to set up the speakers at the end of last week and it wasn't working out so well. The foam pad has also made it difficult to level the work desk and other things in the room.
That got me thinking that maybe I should take the carpet out of the room so I could set stuff right on the wood floor. I figured that I could cover the center of the room with an area rug after I got done with the rug removal. I started on the project on Saturday afternoon. One of the challenges of doing something like removing a rug from a room is moving all the stuff that is on the rug. I decided to do the rug in sections so that I wouldn't have to clear the room first. I started on 1 end of the room and worked my way across, moving stuff as I went. Of course, I forgot to take a picture before I started. I moved all the stuff from one side of the room into the other side so I could pull out the first section of carpet.

The process became a bit like a game of Tetras, finding a place to put the stuff you had moved for the first section of rug, plus the stuff that needed to be moved to pull out the next section of rug. It didn't take too long to fill a garbage can with pieces of the foam backing that I pulled from under the rug.
By the time I was worn out enough for one day's worth of work, I had gotten 3 strips of rug removed from the room, with 1 left to go. The room was a big pile of stuff that had been moved several times.
The different finishes on the floor are pretty interesting. The middle of the room has what I think is the original floor varnish, the light brown color. Then there's 2 different shades of gray paint on the outer edges, and a few remnants of the old linoleum that was put on the floor at some time in the past. It's always interesting to see what used to be in these old houses before the modern age of carpeting. I also found a remnant of a much lighter orange rug that had been in the room before it was replaced by the dark orange carpet.
