Hello, hivers!
According to my blog, it's been 15 days since I've posted here on Hive. It's been a long couple of weeks...
I came down with something about 2-1/2 weeks ago. I don't know what it was because I didn't go and get tested. I'm just going to call it the flu. It was not the typical head cold, I never got super clogged up sinuses like I have in the past with a head cold. It felt like the flu. It took about a week to start coughing, and I'm still doing that a week and a half later. It's an upper respiratory thing...I can breath ok, I just have the irritation cough with a small amount of flem. I think I'm finally starting to recover from this bit of plague, I feel better today than I have in a couple of weeks. Apparently, I must be doing a bit better because I have the mental energy to write this post.
Since my last post, it decided to become winter here. The weather tends to change abruptly here in the upper great lakes region. The weather went from fairly nice days directly to below freezing most days, and colder at night. Then it snowed an inch or so locally. There was a lot more snow up closer to Lake Superior, but we don't get the lake effect here where I live.
After about a week and a half of that, the weather changed again, and we had several days in the high 40s and low 50s F. Of course, I was sick so I did not have the ability to make much use of the break in the weather. It cooled off again a couple of days ago, and then today it decided to rain all day. Apparently, we're on the warm side of the weather front that came through. To the west of us, they got wet heavy snow.
As to the garden, this is what it looked like a few days ago during our brief warm spell. Because of getting sick, I had not been able to get the chipper/shredder put back into it's storage spot, it was still sitting out in the garden. At least I had covered it up after using it the last time. The sun was bright and at a low angle.
Because the weather was fairly nice, I decided to venture out and put the chipper/shredder away, even though I wasn't feeling very good. It was in the mid 50s F, so I figured I could manage it. I wanted to get it done before it got cold and snowed again.
After moving the shredder, I removed the panels from the garden that I had been using to catch the shredded leaves. They're no longer needed, and I didn't want them there all winter. The garden looks better now. I didn't manage to get that old door moved, but that's ok.
Here's a look at the raised bed with all the carrots removed. I had been planning on covering them with a couple inches of shredded leaves, but because of being sick, that hasn't happened yet, and may not if it snows again before I can get to it.
One more picture for you, and it's a bit fuzzy due to the low light and slow shutter speed. This is what's left of the marigolds in the container garden area. It's the usual late fall mess.
