Interesting walk through the recent past of the democratic party. Super insightful.
What you're sharing here reminds me of spiral dynamics, which looks at the pattern of emerging memetic realities in society, which mirror the evolution of human consciousness and psychology. Many say that we're collectively stuck in the "green meme," which is the level of development reflecting the shift towards community, unity, social justice, and harmony.
The shadow elements of the green meme are rooted in the notion that Green values are exclusive, so there can be a strong rejecting of people and groups whose values seem evil or unjust (or so we're told). And this makes us easy to be manipulated. You can see the Green meme showing up in public health policy and in the media: "Protect your neighbor," or "We're all in this together."
I think I'll blog about spiral dynamics this weekend now :)
