Yes! Preach! As someone who's been involved in the holistic health field on a personal and academic level, I totally agree with this. Especially with meditation, where transformative practices get reduced down to the surface, watered-down level without respecting the context, preparation, and time for integration (after the experience) needed. This is specifically true for those who's experienced trauma. I saw breathwork practitioners totally trigger students who had trauma. I was responsible for calming those students down. It was bad.
This reminds me of "wellness experts" promoting fasting, with the rise of social media influencers who call themselves health coaches because they got a weekend workshop certification. They'll promote fasting to their followers without even mentioning the different types of fasting, how to prepare, what to be cautious about, etc.
Contraindications are real and aren't explored enough in alternative health/holistic health communities. Sadly, this makes it easy for Big Pharma and FDA to collude and discredit alternative medicines.
Lastly, I've been in many Somatic Experiencing spaces. It's the foundation of the Hakomi method. It's powerful work!
