Yes Day is a new family comedy from Netflix starring Jennifer Garner. Is it worth watching?
Yes Day has a good starting point that fits perfectly with a family comedy. Showing the family in constant conflict and mutual dislike due to the negative effects of the word "no" seems true and a bit sad at the same time. The title day focuses on saying "yes" and fulfilling various wishes of children - including crazy ones - but in accordance with previously established rules. There is a huge entertainment potential in it, which could perfectly complement the message of the film - that is, looking for a balance so as not to create bad relationships in the family. Unfortunately, production wrecks it all.
The adventures of the title day are the biggest drawback of this film. The day for so had a chance to show off creativity, which will allow you to use this starting point to create something positively crazy, fun and entertaining. Unfortunately, we get total mediocrity, which seems to be a copy of solutions from poor family films from the 90s. Water balloon war? How many similarly played themes were there in this genre? Countless in variations. And this is, to a large extent, the brightest point of the whole discussion, because the rest is even weaker against this background. Especially the "finale" at the concert, which is a festival of banality and reheating other well-worn motifs in a rather poor form. We are witnessing the obvious transformations of heroes, which are influenced by crude threads. They scream so blatantly at the viewer that no one would miss it at the moment, that these motivations would be so bored that everyone would understand them. Such kitschy effects of wrong decisions mean that Dzień na so does not offer anything sensible in terms of entertainment, because it offers only the obvious in a very average form.
This family production cannot be denied that it has its charm and emotional meaning. He wants to talk about something important in a light and accessible way. Jennifer Garner, who seems to have found a way to deal with herself during the pandemic, is what audiences like: likable. And its influence on this production is felt. That is why these more human stages of transformation, maturation and mutual understanding work relatively well, even despite the rather banal and standard approach to the subject. A gentle stirring of emotions, however, will not change the perception of these threads, which by the writers and the director are a show of taking the easy way. It is not about some highly artistic deepening of these relations and the evolution of characters, but about creating an image in which we will believe.
A family movie should be fun for the whole family - with a well-defined moral and cool characters. In this aspect, we are again treated to mediocrity, because although the message of this story is obvious, the artificiality and the lack of an idea to show it does not leave the viewer with emotions and thoughts. And the characters in the family are specific, boring stereotypes that are meant to play certain roles and eventually make a mistake that will make them understand that mom was right. If this schematicity were not so vague, and the conclusions could not be predicted after a few minutes, it would be really good, and so again we have a history created along the line of least resistance.
A day like this isn't a bad movie, but it's also definitely not a good movie. It is neither funny nor moving, nor particularly entertaining. However, I must admit that it is good and painless to watch. He is such a total mediocre without an idea for himself, so ultimately it's a waste of time, because it's better to return to a classic of the genre that will give you more fun and more emotions.
