El puente fue establecido como se planeo en el punto Lagrange L2 de PGB-1, mientras que la entrada en la Vía Láctea se fijó a medio camino entre Casiopea y Omega-1, nombre que recibió el primer puente fijado en el brazo exterior, en pleno territorio Inu.
Una vez activado el nuevo portal a la Galaxia de Bernard, el puente del continente mayor de Casiopea, fue destruido, quedando así el paso bajo el completo control y monitoreo de las fuerzas del ejército humano.
La mitad de la flota de Yone y un número similar de naves proveniente de Apolo, fueron transportadas hasta el nuevo puente, en cuya órbita se fijó una estación espacial provisional, desde la cual controlar el acceso al portal.
Mientras esto sucedía, en PGB-1 ROBERT en compañía de un escuadrón de naves que fueron enviadas a instalar el puente en la Galaxia de Bernard, realizaban un escaneo de los sistemas estelares próximos en busca de planetas o estructuras artificiales que pudiesen poseer vida.
A poco menos de un año luz, en un sistema formado por ocho planetas en órbita alrededor de una enana naranja, pudieron detectar una señal laser, que decidieron investigar. Provenía del sexto planeta del sistema, un pequeño mundo rocoso, cuya superficie estaba, en su mayor parte, cubierta de agua.
―Mis sensores no detectan ninguna fuente de ondas de radio o laser, aparte de la que venimos siguiendo, tal vez se trate del faro de alguna nave o sonda hundida en el océano ―dijo ROBERT, después de hacer varias orbitas al planeta.
―En ese caso deberíamos ubicar la fuente ―dijo la capitana Olga Smith, líder del escuadrón―. ROBERT, sobrevuela la zona de origen y haz un escaneo con el Doppler.
ROBERT entró en la atmósfera del planeta, al igual que PGB-1, el planeta parecía tener las condiciones adecuadas para soportar la vida, sin embargo, carecía de cualquier forma de vida microscópica detectable, al menos a nivel atmosférico, por lo que también se podía deducir la carencia de vida macroscópica.
Al llegar a la zona de origen de la señal, el Doppler mostró la presencia de varias estructuras de gran tamaño, que parecían estar interconectadas.

ROBERT empezó a recorrer la ciudad, mientras desde una órbita fija, los pilotos del escuadrón observaban las imágenes que enviaba.
―¿Capitana, puede ver lo mismo que yo? ―preguntó ROBERT, resaltando lo obvio.

Muchas de las estructuras de la ciudad parecían haber recibido impactos de algún tipo de arma que las había destruido casi en su totalidad, incontables cráteres de variedad de tamaños se apreciaban en varias partes de la ciudad y el terreno circundante.
―De quien quiera que haya sido esta ciudad, fue sometida a un intenso bombardeo con algún tipo de arma de impacto mecánico. Seguiré buscando la fuente de la señal laser ―dijo ROBERT, mientras continuaba explorando.
Al cabo de diez minutos, ROBERT halló la fuente de la señal, se trataba de un emisor situado en lo alto de una edificación con forma de torre, que parecía no haber recibido el impacto de algún proyectil.
―Esta es la fuente Capitana, según el escáner, se trata sólo de un emisor, sin ninguna fuente de datos, conectada a él, creo que se trata de algún tipo de señal de auxilio, tiene una batería de uranio 234 ―explicó ROBERT ―. Por el nivel de desintegración tiene no menos de quince mil años activo. También detecto rastros de contaminación gamma en los materiales de la estructura, al parecer lo que haya sucedido aquí, implicó el bombardeo con rayos gamma, por lo visto el planeta fue literalmente esterilizado.
