En varias regiones del fondo del mar de Ilmatar, fueron hundidos varios antiguos veleros y otros tipos de embarcaciones que fueron desincorporadas de las flotas de otros mundos, con el propósito de propiciar la proliferación de corales, esto fue así a pedido de sus nuevos habitantes quienes afirmaron preferir este tipo de estructuras aa, como ellos afirmaron, monótonas colmenas usadas en otros mundos.

Si bien no se parecían a los arrecifes naturales como se lograba con las colmenas, eran más atractivos a la vista y más interesantes según dijeron en su momento, quienes poblarían este mundo.

Ilmatar es lo que en otro tiempo sería llamado una super Tierra y al mismo tiempo un mundo océano, un planeta rocoso con una masa equivalente al doble del antiguo mundo de la humanidad y cuya superficie está completamente cubierta por un gigantesco océano.

Su terraformación no requirió de un periodo muy prolongado de tiempo, las profundas y puras aguas de su océano, aunque de escasa salinidad, pronto fueron el ambiente propicio para la proliferación de multitud de especies acuáticas, adaptadas genéticamente a estas nuevas condiciones.

Alrededor de su ecuador, las únicas poblaciones humanas que en él habitan, lo hacen a más de cuarenta mil kilómetros de distancia de la superficie de su mar, en cinco estaciones espaciales, de no más de ocho mil habitantes cada una, en su mayor parte estudiantes y científicos provenientes de otros mundos, además de diplomáticos y el personal de las delegaciones consulares de varios mundos.

Sobre la superficie, flotando alrededor del ecuador y guiado de forma automática, sólo un pequeño poblado artificial, con oficinas y habitaciones, para ser ocupadas temporalmente, cuando se necesite que haya personal para conversaciones de algún tipo, con los verdaderos pobladores del planeta.

Ilmatar, es el primer mundo, que la humanidad dedicó a ser poblado sólo por especies acuáticas y dirigido por los Ilmatias, una especie de cetáceos descendiente de los delfines, que habían sido el producto de la manipulación genética de estos mamíferos acuáticos, con el propósito de dotarlos de una forma de inteligencia más parecida a la humana.

Los Ilmatias, como ellos se hicieron llamar, crearon en Ilmatar su propio mundo, en el que ellos reinaban sobre los restantes habitantes de su océano y se erigían en sus representantes ante los humanos cuando fuera necesario.

Ilmatar is the first world that humanity dedicated to be populated only by aquatic species and directed by the Ilmatians, a species of cetaceans descended from dolphins, which had been the product of the genetic manipulation of these aquatic mammals, with the purpose of endowing them with a form of intelligence more similar to that of humans.

The Ilmatians, as they called themselves, created in Ilmatar their own world, in which they reigned over the remaining inhabitants of their ocean and became their representatives before humans when necessary.
