If I could re-live the same day again and again, I do wonder what I would do. I suppose I would have an infinite amount of time to figure that part out. That's the same for the characters from Palm Spings. In a way, the show resembles a modern rendition of Groundhog day.
What's Palm Springs About?
The movie asks two interesting questions when compared to groundhog day. First, what would you do if you could re-live the same day again and again? Second, would you have brought someone along with you to go through an eternity of re-living the same day again and again?
In the movie, Nyles had to re-live the same day again and again after he had entered a cave that got him stuck in a time loop. While he was high one night, he decided to bring along Roy after he assumed that Roy wanted to re-live the same day again and again.
Instead of thanking him Roy was furious and ended up torturing him. The reason why Roy absolutely hated being in the time loop was revealed much later. On one of the occasions he accidentally took along Sarah and got her stuck in the time loop as well. Now that's the summary of what the movie is about. Anything else would be a spoiler to the movie. What was Cool about the solution?
The solution that was figured out by Sarah was rather complex. She had to take on semesters and years of quantum physics just to figure out how to get out of the time loop. I like the solution to the problem because it showed that it took effort and studying to solve such a complex problem. Yay to science! However, it also exemplifies the issue that most of us face when it comes to learning these days.
These problems are time and drive. Most of us feel that we don't have enough time. Some of us even wish that we can have infinite time being stuck in a time loop. That should give us enough time to learn what we want. The problem really is not time, but drive. This has led Sarah down a path of learning some really complex stuff that I was sure she probably won't have thought of doing, under normal circumstances.
Overall, I love how the show presented the idea of a time loop and how having too much time to do whatever you want isn't exactly a good thing. It's a good reminder that there is beauty in things that don't last forever and its also a good reminder that if you are pushed hard enough, you can easily solve anything that you put your minds to.
