Your desire to avoid these debates is completely understandable, especially when they can lead to unpleasantness, and when you feel like the other side of the debate has made up their mind and isn't willing to really listen. But it is really important that we have them, otherwise we're going to be stuck in this mess for a long time. And if enough rational arguments are made, without injecting too much emotions that cloud judgment, maybe some people's minds can be changed.
