The ambitious concept of interconnecting Southeast Asian countries' electricity grids is now on the threshold of realization with the ASEAN Power Grid project. This project not only assures energy efficiency but perhaps potential trillion dollars in savings for the region.
The ASEAN Power Grid is intended to integrate energy systems across borders for a more stable, cheaper, and sustainable electricity supply. Countries with surplus electricity can transmit it to countries in need. This helps lower energy production costs, reduces dependence on fossil fuels, and facilitates a faster conversion to renewable energy.
Strategically, this project is also seen as a tool to address the global energy crisis. ASEAN countries will be cooperating across borders to further strengthen regional energy security. At the same time, this project would create abundant opportunities for investment in infrastructure, green technology, and energy industry cooperation.
