I am always fascinated when I read about the grandeur of building int he medieval world in Europe, especially to learn about their old universities. Just like, how can they build those kind of huge buildings at that time, and then compare what was happening in my country during that time?
I read about the oldest university, which is the University of Bologna which was founded in 1088. I think we ere still in the early times of the small kingdom that rose and fell in the archipelago at that time. And thinking that the building and also the Universities are still in operation left me in awe.
I learned that there are some universities said to be built in the later kingdoms in the country, but the problem is that after the war, and said kingdoms were all gone, the universities were gone with them. the building is almost nowhere to be found, maybe taken over by nature and back into the jungle again.
It made me think again, does it is also one of the reasons we were far behind the Europeans in terms of educational and technological advancement, which then in turn made us fall into their colonization? or there were some part of the greedy and stupid local rulers that gave easier way for the European to colonize the country for several centuries?
