This is my first post on general surgery. Today i will be posting on one of the most famous surgical operation done to examine abdominal content for any injury or disease.

One week back a patient came to our hospital with severe abdominal pain. On examination , abdomen was tender and very hard.
Patient's relative also gave history of gastric ulcer . So, we suspected that might be a case of perforation peritonitis.
It is a medical emergency due to perforation of peptic ulcer.Our doctor planned to do Exploratory laparotomy.

WHAT IS EXPLORATORY LAPAROTOMY ???

Well, it is a surgical procedure where abdomen is opened to examine for any injury or disease condition.A midline incision is given and abdominal content is examined .

INDICATIONS
1.Perforation peritonitis
2.Repair of arota
3.distal pancreatectomy
4.small bowel resection
5.nephrectomy
& so on..
