Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for sunday the 28th day of January, 2024. What a day in the AFCON. I wanted to finish the Egypt vs Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) match before making my publication. Boy o boy! The match then lasted well beyond the regulation time into extra time and then penalties. DRC finally won the game on penalties (8-7)

Earlier in the day, the highly rated Equatorial Guinea suffered an embarrassing defeat to Guinea (0-1) to crash out of the competition. Equatorial Guinea had a man sent off and also missed a penalty before Mohamed Bayo headed in a 98th-minute winner.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out on this day in 1986, the United States space shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after liftoff from Florida, killing all seven on board, including a schoolteacher who had been chosen as the first American civilian to ride in space.

From the USA, Larry goes to Denmark. He finds out that on this day in 1958, Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, whose father created the Danish business LEGO, applied for a Danish patent (which was eventually obtained) for a toy building block that quickly became popular around the world.

From Denmark, Larry goes to France. He finds out that on this day in 1955, Nicolas Sarkozy, the French politician who served as president from 2007 to 2012, was born in Paris.

From France, Larry goes back to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1986, Ronald McNair, an American physicist and astronaut was killed in the Challenger disaster, in flight, off Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA.

From the USA, Larry goes to Sweden. He finds out that on this day in 1938, Tomas Lindahl, a Swedish biologist, is best known for discovering base excision repair, a fundamental DNA repair mechanism that allows cells to maintain genetic integrity, was born in Stockholm, Sweden.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from France. He finds out that on this day in 1871, Paris, France's capital, fell after a four-month siege during the Franco-German war.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
