Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for saturday, the 2nd day of December 2023. It is the weekend edition of.my regular Larry hunt. Gentlemen, Manchester United had a nutht to forget at St. James'park tonight as Newcastle United proved a better 'United' on a night Maan United failed to turn up for the party. They succumbed to a (1-0) defeat. It was a well deserved victory for Newcastle United I must say. After watching that match, Larry then turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from Canada. He finds out that on this day in 2014, Jean Béliveau, a Canadian ice hockey player most known for his prolific scoring, died at the age of 83.
From Canada, Larry goes to Colombia. He finds out that on this day in 1993, Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, who led the Medelln cartel and was perhaps the world's most powerful drug trafficker in the 1980s and early 1990s, was murdered in a shootout with police.
From Colombia, Larry goes to the world of music and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1983, MTV premiered the revolutionary music video for Michael Jackson's song Thriller.
From the world of music and entertainment, Larry goes to the world of human medicine. He finds out that on this day in 1983, the first permanent artificial heart, the Jarvik-7, was implanted in Barney Clark by William C. DeVries.
From the world of human medicine, Larry goes back to the world of music and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1981, Britney Spears, American singer who helped launch the teen-pop craze in the late 1990s and later faced significant public attention for her turbulent personal life was born in McComb, Mississippi, U.S.A.
Larry loves Britney Spears songs. Here is one of his favourites titled: "Born To Make You Happy"
From the world of music and entertainment, Larry goes to the UAE. He finds out that on this day in 1971, The United Arab Emirates was founded by the combination of six tiny Arabian Peninsula emirates; a seventh emirate joined in February 1972.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today from the world of Physics. He finds out that on this day in 1942, at the University of Chicago, scientists led by Enrico Fermi carried out the world's first controlled self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
