I have a feeling this is one of those self-fulfilling prophecies. Take a sleeping bear and prod it enough, and eventually it'll wake up. I still remember the United States promising at the end of the Cold War that NATO wouldn't expand further east.... then incorporating Poland, the Baltic States, and the rest of what had been the Warsaw Pact. It's one of those "how far back in history do you want to go ?" kind of things with each side responding to perceived threats in an endless spiral.

But now the UK government has promised an additional 150,000 drones to Ukraine, and increasing rumours that most of the ones hitting St Peterburg are being launched from (or at the very least being allowed to fly through) Finland, the Baltic States and Royal Navy vessels in the Baltic it would take a superhuman effort of restraint by Russia for them not to respond. So yeah, it all feels a bit June 1914 to me.....
