There is a definite trend in business software that developers thing they have to attach the "AI" buzzword to every new product (whether it actually contains AI or not), and use it as an excuse to drive up the price, which of course is always a subscription.
I recently trimmed out a lot of the software my business uses because the costs had just become unrealistic. A lot of tools I'd taken on because they did a single task really well for (say) $10 a month had grown into (supposedly) AI assisted bloatware that now did a dozen things rather poorly, overlapping and tripping over each other and with subscriptions that had grown to $50-$100 a month.
I firmly believe we need to get back to simple tools that are intuitive enough that a business doesn't need to hire a specialist to keep them working as intended. Also that AI is only used where it is genuinely required (most AI is just "very fast computing able to dig into a large set of stolen data" anyway)
