Follow the money.

All those sanctions the US imposes ? Totally without any UN mandate. Sinking or capturing "Shadow Fleet" tankers ? Literal piracy, their only "crime" was to buy insurance from their own countries not Lloyds.

As for kidnapping Maduro; whether you liked or loathed him, what the US just did breached the UN Charter and US legislation requiring Congressional approval for acts of war, as well as the concepts of sovereignty and sovereign immunity for heads of state. I won't talk about International Law, there's no such thing any more. One grainy photo doesn't prove he's actually still alive any more than the crews of the pirated tankers are (rumour is they've been "disappeared" in a thrown-to-the-sharks kind of way).

It's because the US has run out of oil. Having persuaded their EU puppets to stop importing Russian oil, the US was exporting all it could to the EU to replace it (at treble the price). US refineries were operating massively under-capacity because they're geared to process heavy sour crude (the stuff produced by Venezuela, and coincidentally Iran). They can't attack Iran until they can replace the oil that'll get stopped when the Straights of Hormuz get closed, which helps grow their oil revenues.

Meanwhile, the precedent has been set. Trump's imposition of a warped version of the Monroe Doctrine justifies the Russian actions in Ukraine and China's forthcoming takeover of Taiwan as both places are in their respective spheres of influence. As differing conclusions in Syria, Iraq, Libya and North Korea have demonstrated, the only sure protection against US destruction is the completed development of a nuclear programme, and as Venezuela has shown us, it needs to be on a dead man's switch which obviates the ability of corrupt minions to disarm it.

On the upside, perhaps all those world leaders wittering on about climate change will now do their meetings virtually instead of using polluting jets to fly to exotic places. Diplomacy is dead, and leaders outside (or inside) their countries are fair game for anyone who can think up a lawsuit against them.
