What does home mean? Is it only one location, your house in the suburbs, or is it wherever you are? I guess that's dependant on many factors and is quite subjective although in my mind I don't believe home is that one single location, your house in the cul-de-sac, neatly trimmed grass and associated mortgage.
I've travelled all over the world and coming back to my home country is always a happy occasion; Things are familiar, there's no language barriers and my life resumes it's, quite predictable and controlled, course. However if I never returned to that house in the suburbs and my country of birth I'd still be somewhere right? And wouldn't it make sense that that location would then be home? I think so.
I've always held to the belief that I'm home when I close the door behind me, no matter where that door happens to be. It could be in a hotel room, a tent, my own property or in some distant land overlooking a beautiful blue ocean...You see, for me home is where my partner and I are...And the physical location really has little bearing on whether I call it home or not.
Home isn't a place for me...It's a state of being, a feeling; Comfort, safety, the company of my partner, the ability to lock the world out...That's where home is and it could be in the wilderness, the city or at any other physical location.
