Most people like to be well thought of, and often, a person who pleasing other people can make those people think more highly or fondly of them; It's a simple concept. Although a concept that can become a little more complicated.
Whilst pleasing others can be a rewarding endeavour, doing so at the cost of ones own self-respect and integrity will often only lead to a lack of confidence and lack of self-esteem later down the road.
Maintaining ones' self-respect and integrity should be of paramount importance. After all, if a person can't live with themselves, no one else will be able to either.
