Monkeys are small to medium-sized primates that are native to Africa, Asia, and the Americas. There are over 260 known species of monkey, and they are divided into two main groups: Old World monkeys, which are native to Africa and Asia; and New World monkeys, which are native to Central and South America. Old World monkeys are further divided into two subgroups: Cercopithecines, which include macaques, baboons, and guenons; and Colobines, which include langurs and leaf monkeys. New World monkeys are also divided into two subgroups: Platyrrhines, which include marmosets and tamarins; and Catarrhines, which include capuchins, howler monkeys, and spider monkeys.
