Let's Talk About Short-Form Content On Hive

Good morning, Hive!

For the past six months, I've been co-hosting the Defluenced podcast (@defluencedcast) with @unklebonehead. No, he's not my real uncle, but he is a bonehead!

Now that I've got that off my chest, I'd like to extend an invitation to @khaleelkazi and @nathansenn to come onto the Defluenced podcast and discuss the rise of short-form content. We're not interested in a fight or a Leo Threads vs. D.Buzz fist festival. It's not about which is the better platform. Rather, we're more interested in an open discussion on why short-form content is necessary on the Hive blockchain, the benefits of short-form content versus long-form content, and what are the best ways to present and reward short-form content.

I'd like to thank Nathan and his partner @chrisrice for recently coming onto the Defluenced podcast and discussing D.Buzz. I think it was a productive discussion with some good points made by all. Here's the episode for anyone with itching ears.

How Defluenced Came To Be

I'm not the best person to tell this story since Defluenced is the brainchild of Unkle Bonehead, but I can talk about how I got involved.

I had already written a book on cryptosocial media wherein I discuss the history of the World Wide Web, decentralization, and social media. Unkle Bonehead read it and became an instant fan. At the time, I was writing my second book on the subject, which was recently published.

Web3 Social differs from Cryptosocial in a few very important ways. First, it's written specifically for creators whereas Cryptosocial is more for a general audience. Secondly, it covers material not covered in Cryptosocial, including decentralized autonomous organizations and creator tokens. Some of the other material pertaining to specific Web3 social platforms has been updated because some of the platforms discussed in Cryptosocial no longer exist and new ones have popped up. Web3 Social is getting excellent reviews and has achieved No. 1 New Release in several categories.

My background is journalism. Prior to starting my freelance writing business in 2006, I was a newspaper editor and award-winning journalist. I believe in the concept of neutrality when reporting on competing systems. It's not my job to take sides.

That said, I do believe in reporting the truth and challenging assumptions. I'm also not afraid to be critical toward ideas, philosophies, approaches, and conduct. My analytical mind has won me awards in editorial and column writing because I can look at things from multiple angles, put myself in others' shoes to see life from their perspective, and show empathy where it is needed. I bring all of that to the table any time I interview someone or enter into a panel for a discussion.

I've enjoyed my time being a co-host of Defluenced podcast, but I think I can speak for Unkle Bonehead too when I say I'd like to make it a better and more popular podcast, not just on the Hive blockchain but in the cryptosphere.

An open and honest discussion between the creators of Leo Threads and D.Buzz would go a long way to achieving that goal and, I believe, make both projects stronger. I also believe it would benefit the Hive blockchain by encouraging a competitive spirit with an attitude of friendliness.

Why I Think This Discussion Can Improve Hive

I discovered Steemit in 2018 while working as a news curator for Blockchain Times, which has since been sold to a new owner and I'm no longer associated with. I joined Steemit and played around, which rejuvenated my interest in blogging. In a downward moving crypto market, I earned over $1,000 in Steemit rewards, which doesn't account for the many @steemmonsters cards I collected.

Then, the infamous hostile takeover happened and the blockchain forked. Hive was born. Unfortunately, at the same time, I lost my keys and couldn't access my account on either Steemit or Hive.

After taking some time off, I rejoined Hive under a different username and not long afterward bet Unkle Bonehead. I've been bullish on the Hive blockchain ever since.

Like many of those who have been here longer, I'm committed to making Hive the best Web3 social blockchain there is. I already believe it is the best, but it can be improved. Open and honest discussions among witnesses, developers, curators and creators, on ways to improve the blockchain make it stronger and make us a stronger community—as long as it's done in a spirit of friendliness and cooperation.

For that reason, I'd like to invite Khal and Nathan to the Defluenced podcast to discuss short-form content issues on the Hive blockchain with Unkle Bonehead and me.
