I closed my eyes; let my body relax on the grass and let go of the thoughts in my mind, sensing the movement of air around me and the quietness of the garden. 30 minutes later the trainer shouted “up”. When I opened my eyes it was a different world; colours were more vivid, the smell of the garden was more discernible, the sunlight got brighter and the sounds were clearer, I started to notice the details of many things around me that I hadn’t seen before.

It had been one of the times I meditated in Shavsana pose in an open and green area. It is not the world that became different; I am the one who became different.

For a long time I had been aware of how our state of mind affects our body functions but it was the very first time to experience the change directly, and in such short span of time.

I can go further and claim that it is not only our physical functions that are optimized by our tranquil minds but also our psyche and emotional states. Emotions and their relevant thoughts feed on each other. Recurring thoughts keep us in the same emotional state. Quietening the mind can effectively lead us out of negative states and bring us closer to the present moment.

We see through our states, what we see isn’t independent from which state we see through. The more we are in a state of tranquility and contentment the more beautifully things appear to us, and the less dramatic we interpret life events.

When I have been younger I was extremely annoyed by those who was blind to many beautiful things around us and kept misinterpreting every situation they came through in such a way that it only seemed as misfortune.

It is clear that life is not always about beauty but it should also be clear that it is not only about ugliness. What dictate our ability to see beauty and deal with ugliness is how clear our minds are and how light our hearts are. For the most part it is not about how things unfold in our lives rather how we perceive and interpret them.

Thank You :)
