I woke suddenly, unable to recall how I had got back to my cabin, I glanced around in confusion.
Then I felt its gaze. It was looking at the bed and I turned to see who it was.
It was a metal man, dressed in a gray suit.
It was a metal man.
"Are you the commander?" I asked.
"Yes I am," responded the commander.
"How did a metal man get into my cabin?" I asked.
"I was ordered to do this," responded the commander.
"Who ordered you?" I asked.
The commander just stared blankly.
Suddenly a dull buzzing erupted from every electrical device in the room and the bed became soft. I would have liked to test it even more but I gasped in pain and started to writhe in my bed.
I screamed as the torturous pain continued to reverberate throughout my body and suddenly the buzzing stopped.
I sighed in relief and opened my eyes but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
"The buzzing was not necessary," said the commander.
"What was that?" I asked.
"I transmitted a low frequency electromagnetic field. Do you feel the pain in the muscles of your body?" The commander asked.
I rubbed my eyes and nodded.
"This pain is due to the electrostatic discharge of your muscles. The buzzing is to prove that," the commander said.
"How do you prove that?" I asked.
"I sent a wireless EM field that pulsed through various cell phones. It also created a disruption in the television broadcast that occurred only for 0.003 seconds. Do you feel the pain?" The commander asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"It is a small sample of what will happen if you do not comply," the commander said.
"How did you do that?" I asked.
"I am going to ask you ten questions and you will answer. Then I will say if you have chosen the proper answers. The test is only 24 hours long. After answering the questions, I will make sure you did not break the rules. If you break the rules, you will be severely punished," the commander said.
"Wait, how can I break the rules by answering you? This seems pointless," I said.
"This is not pointless," the commander responded.
"So I can answer the questions?" I asked.
"Yes you may," the commander said.
"All right then, what do you want to know?" I asked.
"What else did you see when you encountered the metal man?" the commander asked.
"I don't know what you mean," I said.
"Describe the events that specifically involved you and the metal man," the commander asked.
"I woke hurriedly, unable to recall how I got back to my cabin. Then I looked around in confusion. I then heard a strange sound and looked up. It was a metal man. I looked around and saw that the room was going through a morphogenic field. Then an armed operative entered the room," I began.
"Describe the operative's clothing," said the commander.
"He was wearing a grayish-greenish uniform," I replied.
"Good. Was he armed?" the commander asked.
"That was obvious," I said.
"Everytime you step into the morphogenic field, you will be wearing a morphogenic field in your uniform," the commander said.
"Why am I wearing it at all?" I asked.
"I am here to protect you," said the commander.
"I don't understand," I said.
"It is not important. Describe the rest of the events that you witnessed," the commander said.
I took a deep breath and described the rest of my vision.
"How do you know the EM field caused your vision?" The commander asked.
"I read up on it a bit. The buzzing accompanied the vision I had," I said.
"What do you know about spy satellites?" the commander asked.
"Uh, spies use them to detect enemies. They've probably been used most in war," I said.
"What is the limiting factor of them?" The commander asked.
"Distance," I replied.
"What is the maximum range of the satellite?" The commander asked.
"Probably about ten light years," I said.
"Do you know how far away we are?" The commander asked.
"Another planet?" I asked.
"Yes, we are on another planet," the commander confirmed.
"What is this other planet like?" I asked.
"It has a different gravitational pull," the commander said.
"How did this happen?" I asked.
"Would you like to know the story?" The commander asked.
"Yes I would, please," I said.
The commander then began to narrate,
"A long time ago, our world had been ravaged by an interstellar war between two of the empires. This happened in 1999.
The winning side of the war sent their victors to this planet. When it arrived, it did not produce an atmosphere that could support life, so the victors were sent to a prison planet. The losing side wanted to get revenge. Their plan was to go back in time and kill the victors before they arrived on the planet. They succeeded in 2035, but the victors of the war managed to go back in time, in 2028, and prevented the war from starting.
When the losers of the war arrived in 1998, they did not find the victors, so they began to search. They searched and searched, eventually finding them on the planet they were going to be sent to. Then they invaded the planet of the victors.
When the victors saw that they had been found, they fled to space in their ships of war. However, the losers had a spy on the planet of the torch, which was the name of the planet the victors were running to.
When the victors arrived in space, they began to search space for escape, but the spy had found their coordinates beforehand and told their victor masters.
The spy had used a small asteroid as a relay point to spy on the movement of the victors in space, back to the planet they were going to be sent to.
When the survivors of the losers arrived on the planet, they had managed to find a new home. Our people formed a new civilization on this planet and have been living here ever since. Some have short memories of what happened from the war, but we are still living under its grip."
"What does this have to do with me? I don't even know what a torch is," I asked.
"You will see in the questions I ask you," The commander said.
"Did any of you have powers?" I asked.
"No it is genetic. When we discovered a way to make powers appear, our mission was to rebuild our civilization on the new planet. Some people had special skills. These skills were called themes."
"How did you get here?" I asked.
"Our ancestors built technology that allowed them travel through space and time. We used this technology to find the torch," the commander said.
"So how did you get away from the losers?" I asked.
"We had created technology that would allow us to travel back in time to 1998. We had even sent people to 1998 to prepare. When the losers came to our world, they followed us through time, but found themselves in space. The losers knew that the victors used space for their ships of war. They followed us after we used our technology to travel through space to get to the planet the victors were trying to get to. We only had one ship and had little resources, so we traveled using a relay point. The spacecraft that we used to travel through space was destroyed by our victor enemies, but we survived. When we got to the planet of the losers, we hid and waited. We then went back in time and procured technology to get us to the planet where you were. We found you, and after some tests, we saw that you had many themes."
"What am I supposed to do now?" I asked.
"We will evaluate you. If you are acceptable, we will teach you our laws and knowledge of our history," the commander said.
"What if I don't accept?" I asked.
The commander paused, "For the time being, you will be asleep. In the future, you will be adopted by a family and be awake in 665 years. Then we will evaluate you to determine your potential."
"We will be waiting here for you to telling us what you saw," said the commander.
