En la penumbra de una habitación que olía a café frío y resentimiento, dos voces tejían un diálogo afilado. No había nombres propios, solo pronombres cargados de desdén: "ella, él, ellos." Las palabras no eran dagas, sino agujas que pinchaban una y otra vez, dejando heridas pequeñas pero profundas. No había valor para decir las cosas de frente, pero sobraba audacia para destilar veneno en ausencia.

"¿Viste lo que hizo? Como si fuera la única que sufre...", susurró una voz, mientras la otra asentía con un movimiento de cabeza que parecía decir claro, siempre igual. Las críticas no buscaban construir, ni siquiera corregir; solo desarmar. Era un juego de desmontar vidas ajenas, pieza por pieza, para sentir que las propias estaban menos rotas.

Pero en medio de esas risas cómplices y miradas de complicidad, había algo más: un vacío que ni ellas mismas querían reconocer. Hablar mal de otros era solo un reflejo distorsionado de lo que callaban sobre sí mismas. Cada palabra dura, cada juicio implacable, era un grito ahogado de inseguridad, de miedo a ser las siguientes en el banquillo de los acusados.

Y así, en esa habitación, el tiempo se deslizaba entre murmullos y suspiros. Fuera, el mundo seguía su curso, ajeno a las palabras que, como piedras, se acumulaban en el fondo del río de esas relaciones. Pero las piedras, con el tiempo, cambian el cauce del agua. Y las palabras, aunque no se digan de frente, siempre encuentran su camino para herir.

Voices that destroy

In the gloom of a room that smelled of cold coffee and resentment, two voices wove a sharp dialogue. There were no proper names, only pronouns laden with disdain: “she, he, they.” The words were not daggers, but needles that pricked again and again, leaving small but deep wounds. There was no courage to say things up front, but plenty of audacity to distill venom in absence.

“Did you see what she did? As if she were the only one who suffers...”, whispered one voice, while the other nodded with a nod that seemed to say of course, always the same. The criticisms did not seek to build, or even to correct; only to disarm. It was a game of taking apart other people's lives, piece by piece, to feel that their own were less broken.

But in the midst of those complicit laughs and looks of complicity, there was something else: an emptiness that they themselves did not want to recognize. Speaking ill of others was only a distorted mirror of what they kept silent about themselves. Each harsh word, each implacable judgment, was a stifled cry of insecurity, of fear of being the next in the dock.

And so, in that room, time slipped between murmurs and sighs. Outside, the world followed its course, oblivious to the words that, like stones, accumulated at the bottom of the river of those relationships. But stones, with time, change the course of the water. And words, even if they are not said face to face, always find their way to hurt.
