Some battles have rulesets that are very confusing especially when they appear in a low mana battle. This makes things even more difficult because on one hand you have to understand the ruleset and choose your monsters accordingly.
On the other hand, since it is a low mana battle you have a limited mana cost which means you have very few options to choose the right monsters.
These battles are very difficult but they are also interesting because they teach you how to build a good strategy and a strong team combination.
In today's 20 mana battle I came across two special rulesets that were completely opposite to each other which made the battle even more confusing.
Again this was a low mana battle where there is always confusion about which monsters to prioritize, how to select them and where to place them.
What were the 2 rulesets in this 20 mana battle?
BORN AGAIN
The first ruleset was Born Again. This means that every unit gains the Rebirth ability. As soon as a monster is eliminated it comes back to life. After reviving it returns with 1 Health and 100% of its Armor.
For example, a monster had 3 Health and 2 Armor before being eliminated, it will not come back with all 3 Health. Instead it returns with only 1 Health while it gets all 2 Armor back.
Another important feature of this ruleset is that all magic buffs are removed and then all magic buffs are applied again after the monster revives.
GLOBAL WARMING
The second ruleset was Global Warming. Every unit starts with the Burning status effect. Beginning in Round 2 there is a 33% chance that the Burning effect will spread to other allied units.
Because of Burning every affected monster loses 2 Health over time. However any monster that has the Cleanse ability can remove this Burning effect.
There is a major contradiction between these two rulesets. On one hand, your monsters come back to life because of Rebirth. On the other hand they continue losing Health every round because of the Burning effect.
Keeping both rulesets in mind I selected an Archon that gives +1 Health to all allied monsters. Since the Burning effect continuously reduces Health I wanted my team to have extra Health instead of focusing on heavy attackers.
For my frontline I focused entirely on defense by choosing a monster that has no attack at all.
In the second position I selected a monster with the Reach ability so it could attack from the second position.
My last monster was a ranged attacker that could continue attacking safely from the backline.
As the battle started my frontline monster was eliminated first. However, because of the Rebirth ability it came back to life and survived for another two to three rounds. During that time my backline monsters kept dealing continuous damage.
After that, my opponent's tank was eliminated then my tank was defeated again and the battle continued for quite some time as the remaining monsters kept fighting.
The Rebirth ability kept activating throughout the battle. My monsters survived longer because of their extra Health and my overall team combination proved to be very strong. This strategy eventually earned me a convincing victory.
My biggest decision was focusing only on defense in the frontline. I selected a monster named Spellmonger which only has Armor and Health. It has no melee attack, no ranged attack and no magic attack.
While my backline consisted of a balanced combination of melee and ranged attackers that continued dealing damage throughout the battle, while my frontline monster simply absorbed all the incoming damage without attacking.
That strategy turned out to be the winning strategy for this particular ruleset and it helped me secure an excellent victory.
What strategy would you use in this type of ruleset and which monsters would you prefer the most? Will be glad to see your answers in the comment section.
