favorite holiday destination

From child birth till now I have been on a lot of holidays some of which I can not even remember but you know some memories are unforgettable. This is a very popular Islamic holiday that occurs once every year on the Islamic calendar. This particular holiday celebration took place in my grandparents' hometown, that is; Gomoa Afransi in the central region of Ghana. It was an Eid-ul-adha celebration. This event took place when I was in JHS 2 at the age of seventeen in the year 2012. It was a four days visit together with my siblings. It was our first time of visit after our parents moved from our hometown to settle in Ofankor. For them they use to visit from time to time but for the sake of school we were always left out until our grandparents requested they needed to spend some time with their grandchildren alone on that year's eid celebration.

We started our journey around 12 noon on a day to the actual day of the holiday. (The eid Day) it was a three and half hours drive from Ofankor to our grandparents' location. We got there between 4 and 5 pm. As we arrived, the place was so! Bushy, everywhere was quiet as at 5 pm the first question we asked was, are there no people in the community? They both glanced and smiled without altering any word. The evening meal was already served and was very enjoyable. The holidays had started with a very nice meal for a supper. We quickly took our bath and prepared to retire to bed as we were exhausted from the rough road ride.

A new day arose and the day for the festivities. We had already ironed our clothing the previous day. The old woman was wake some hours before we were and breakfast had already been made and served by 6:30am. That was my first time taking breakfast that early. From there, we realized that the holidays are going to be a memorable one. The old woman was so happy that she did all we requested. By 7:15am. on the day, eid, we were already set for prayers. The old man asked where you were rushing to, and my elderly brother answes, going for eid prayer. The old man replied, "Please slow down." Over here, we do not pray as early as you guys do when you are in Accra. Right after the eid prayer, we yook some pictures and then returned. But already some cows, goats, and sheep had started making noise within the community.

On that very day, the joy was more than ever. Food was in abundant, and for meat do not go there. For drinks, we couldn't identify where they were coming from. We filled our bellies and reservoirs until we had no where else to store more food on that day.

The days after the eid day, the community had a football tournament which is been played on every eid holiday amongst the Muslims and Christians within the community. Before we went to the field to support our dear Muslim brother, we took a walk through the community. The place is very peaceful with a lot of plants creating shades everywhere. It is a very small village community. At the time of our visit, the season had presented itself with a lot of fruits. In the evening on that same day there was an organized sala fest at the community center and it was a massive fest.

The first thing in the morning on the third day our grandparents made us do was to move through almost half of the community to greet people. It was boring but you know they always want to show off when their grandchildren visit. That hours of the morning were our final moments within the community. We were to live in the afternoon on that day.

It was my first time visiting a village, and the joy we had over there was way much above our expectations, and since then, it has been my favorite place to always want to celebrate Eid-ul-adha. And whenever Eid-ul-adha is approaching, we are reminded of those holidays. I don't think I will ever forget this holiday though the Oldman and woman are no more with us
