11 years ago Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10000 BTC for two pizzas, showing that BTC can be used for payments. It was the first record of a purchase of tangible goods with BTC and marks the start of a new era.
People might condemn Laszlo Hanyecz or say that he was fullish for doing the trade, asking for over 4 days till it got completed.
I think it is the other way around, someone needed to do it, and we all shall be thankful for the service he has done us, as I would not write this, and you won't ever have read it, without him taking the first step and starting the phenomenon.
Yes, Satoshi invented it, but without a use, BTC is useless, and the use case came from this particular transaction. Not only he is to be cherished, but also the one who accepted BTC as a payment method, Jeremy “Jercos” Sturdivant as without him, this transaction would not have taken part. Both of them are our BTC pioneers, showing the world that we can go also other ways.
This day impacted a lot in our financial world, changing it for good and for the good. It was the natural step in our financial evolution, setting us free from the old ways that enslave us.
Hopefully this day will be taught in school, like most economic developments in history.
To celebrate this day, I will do a reverse transaction and will buy FIAT more crypto, as it is on discount.
