In challenge 296, I join in with the question: ***What do you think about keeping young children in front of a screen to entertain them? Do you think there are better ways for young children to spend their time and be raised? *** In my humble opinion, today's questions have their pros and cons. When we talk about children, the first thing we must keep in mind is 24/7 supervision and dedication on the part of their parents and family when we all live under the same roof, accompanied by the daily love that makes a difference in each child's heart, fulfilling the stages of every being. In this challenge, I can say that I have used the television to entertain my little one for 10 minutes a day, with music and the occasional cartoon, at a minimum distance of one metre. It is true that it distracts them and they appreciate the ingenious world of discovery: sounds, movements and colours, while parents carry out activities, supervising their children. But as every home is different, not everyone has the patience and gift of motherhood to supervise and interact at every step, and that is where the cons come in, the validity of mistakes. While it is true that we are human and we can make mistakes every day, but we must take into account a virtue that is difficult for us to see, which is to accept and correct these actions in time and space, as they can harm our children in the future. Since I was little, my parents always instilled in me the phrase, ‘children should be children.’ By this, they meant that it is important for their development to grow up in an environment that allows them to enjoy things appropriate for their age and that also encourages interaction with the real world. Various studies have shown that unsupervised screen time at an early age produces excess dopamine that a child's brain is not ready to process, causing anxiety problems in the first place and affecting their sense of sight in the future because it causes double vision or a deviation in their gaze. Dear parents, why should we harm our children because of a lack of attention, whether due to work, personal or even family factors? Let's think about this from the heart. From the moment we conceive, we must assume the role in every sense of the word. Now that we know the consequences of doing so without supervision, I believe that we, dear parents, must assume the role and provide our children with healthy tools by always interacting with them. If you are not available to do so, do not give them those tools at will, as they will not always be young, and it will weigh more heavily on them as the years go by. LIFE IS NOT LUCK, YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW. The right thing to do is to seek support from a trusted paediatrician who can guide us through the stages when we are first-time parents.
