Good thing about this particular book is that it's really short: I read it in a day! (well, it was my off day, but still!) Snyder is objectively one of the world's best historians, but this particular book is quite short and to the point. You'd need to read one of his other books, or watch podcasts or something, to get the more important things he has to say which need more pages to be adequately explored.

Fun fact: When Russia called a United Nations meeting about so-called Russophobia, it invited two speakers who lived in Ukraine for some time. One was a TV channel owner in Russia, and the second too was a non-expert. The Ukrainian side invited Timothy Snyder, who is one of the world's top experts on Eastern European history. If I understood correctly, the Russian UN representative ended by basically threatening Snyder!! Anw you can see these stuff online, cos the UN publishes the meetings on youtube. Here is Snyder's speech in particular, but the whole meeting (~2 hours long) is available. Anw, just thought you might find this kind of thing interesting, and maybe enjoy hearing the man speak live about such a crucial modern issue. You see, this Tyranny stuff is not just an intellectual pastime, it's real-life!
