Learning a Few Melodies

Hace unos 5 años (creo) compre este teclado por $50 ¿Por qué lo compre? ¿Acaso se tocar el piano?... ¡NO! Jamás había tocado un piano en mi vida mas que las apps de piano que descargas en la play store, no se porque, pero me pareció super barato en ese entonces este piano y lo compre, es un modelo bastante antiguo, pero funciona perfecto. La cuestión es que lo utilizamos muy poco cuando lo compre, quien mas jugo con el fue mi hijo que recuerdo en ese entonces estaba super pequeñito y ni entendía que estaba haciendo, un día simplemente decidí guardar el piano y nunca mas lo saqué, hasta hoy que lo vi nuevamente y dije… “Vamos a sacarlo a ver que pasa” estaba todo lleno de polvo, lo limpie muy bien antes de usarlo, mi hijo estaba emocionado (no se si el recuerda que ese piano existía)

About 5 years ago (I think) I bought this keyboard for $50. Why did I buy it? Did I know how to play the piano?... NO! I had never played a piano in my life—other than the piano apps you download from the Play Store. I don’t know why, but this piano seemed super cheap to me back then, so I bought it. It’s a pretty old model, but it works perfectly. The thing is, we hardly used it at all when I bought it. The one who played with it the most was my son—I remember he was really little back then and didn’t even understand what he was doing. One day, I just decided to put the piano away and never took it out again—until today, when I saw it again and said… “Let’s take it out and see what happens.” It was covered in dust, so I cleaned it really well before using it. My son was excited (I don’t know if he even remembers that this piano existed).

Este piano es super grande y pesado, tiene su pedal y varios efectos de sonido, es genial… Mi hijo y yo decidimos empezar a aprender juntos y fue bastante divertido, busque información en internet que me ayudase a entender bien por donde empezar, asi conseguí varios videos donde nos muestran las teclas con letras y colores y eso mismo intente recrear para hacer canciones, mi hijo quería tocar melodías de backrooms y por suerte conseguimos videos de esos temas.

This piano is huge and heavy; it has a pedal and various sound effects—it’s awesome… My son and I decided to start learning together, and it was a lot of fun. I looked up information online to help me figure out where to start, and that’s how I found several videos that showed the keys labeled with letters and colors. I tried to recreate that to play songs. My son wanted to play Backrooms melodies, and luckily we found videos of those songs.

No fue nada facil entender el orden de las teclas que debíamos presionar para crear la canción, fue difícil, problemático y confuso pero una vez que vas armando las notas te emocionas muchísimo, estas recreando una canción sin saber absolutamente nada de música, es fantástico.

It wasn't easy at all to figure out the order of the keys we had to press to create the song—it was difficult, troublesome, and confusing—but once you start putting the notes together, you get really excited; you're recreating a song without knowing absolutely anything about music—it's fantastic.

Después de varios intentos fallidos tanto de mi hijo como míos decidimos hacer las cosas mas sencillas, y me di cuenta que podíamos tocar ambos y trabajar en equipo, yo me ocupaba de las teclas de la izquierda y mi hijo de las teclas de la derecha. Pusimos los videos en YouTube en velocidad muy lenta y fuimos presionando las teclas y creando la música, una vez lista la práctica lo hacíamos en velocidad normal y nos confundíamos demasiado jajaja es super difícil presionar varias teclas al mismo tiempo, necesitas destreza, agilidad y unas manos muy flexibles jajaja.

After several failed attempts by both my son and me, we decided to keep things simple, and I realized that we could both play and work as a team—I’d handle the keys on the left and my son would handle the keys on the right. We played the YouTube videos at a very slow speed and pressed the keys to create the music. Once we’d practiced that, we’d try it at normal speed, but we’d get really confused, hahaha—it’s super hard to press multiple keys at the same time; you need dexterity, agility, and really flexible hands, hahaha.

Básicamente pasamos casi todo el día practicando y hubo un poquito de avance pero necesitamos desarrollar mas destreza, hoy me di cuenta que mi hijo tiene buen oído y buena memoria para esto, ya que a veces solía replicar una nota solo escuchándola y probando las teclas, me encantaría que se apasione por la música y aprenda a tocar el piano como todo un profesional.

Basically, we spent almost the whole day practicing, and we made a little progress, but we need to develop more skill. Today I realized that my son has a good ear and a good memory for this, since he would sometimes replicate a note just by listening to it and trying out the keys. I would love for him to develop a passion for music and learn to play the piano like a true professional.
