Hey everybody!

In an effort to produce zero food waste, Pam and I decided to make our very own 2 tier worm composting system.

We live in a downtown apartment, so we don't exactly have excess space.

First, we purchased 500 red wigglers from a worm farm in Antigua. They sent them in the mail in a little box. They had plenty of food, moisture and temperature were ok and holes in the box so they could get some air, so travel wasn't a problem.

We made a two bin composting system.

Top Bin has the food and the worms and the bottom bin collects the worm tea.
We might add a third bin to the system if the amount of worms, compost and food grows.

Right now, this is what the top bin usually looks like on feeding day, which is every other Sunday. Food waste goes on one side, cover it up and let it be for two weeks. We switch sides on the next feeding day.

It seems to be working pretty well so far. We try not to use citrus and spicy foods. And if humidity por PH starts to get out of control we'll through some cardboard to balance things out a bit.

Today we got a nice surprise. A bunch of little green eggs appeared :) Not entirely sure if they can be set aside to know how fast they are reproducing and maybe make additional composting systems.

We decided to just leave them alone. Does anybody have any #vermicomposting tips on how to handle these little guys?
