It is always good to venture to try new things and today I dared to use watercolors to make a drawing from my imagination without a guide or models. I love putting my imagination to flight taking these types of drawings out of my mind, but it's my first time using watercolors and today I'm showing it to you exclusively for Hive.

Materials

  • Paper sheet.
  • Brush.
  • Watercolors.
  • A cup of water.

Process

First I started giving some brush strokes to get used to the use of watercolor since I didn't know very well how to use it successfully, the first brush strokes were a little faint because I wasn't mixing the water well, but after a while I was able to grab the thread and start marking more color.

The first thing to do was a small green silhouette to begin to capture my idea which I was going to make of a colorful bird, despite the fact that she dominated the brush a little more, she felt that the color was still quite light.

To continue I started by adding a new stripe of color this time using orange. With this color I intended to be what the part of the abdomen would be at once, really I already felt a little more confident with the brush, I liked the result I was getting more.

Add not only the color stripe but also some spots from the previous green stripe to simulate a not totally perfect plumage as it would be seen on a real specimen.

With yellow and black I continued adding the beak of the bird, the legs, and some details such as the claws and the edge of the beak, I also added a small eye so that the drawing began to take shape.

With the brown color I proceeded to add some shadows on the orange part of the bird, at first I wasn't very convinced but after a while I started to see the best so I started adding some extra shadows.

To conclude, I took dark green and added it to the contour of the upper part so it would be seen in more elaborate shadows and this was the result achieved.
