Akaroa is a town situated on the Banks Peninsula only under two hours from Christchurch. I remember I didn't really research too much before I decided to go there, I only looked on Google Maps and it seemed an appealing destination. I booked a car and I made my way there. What it was supposed to be a relatively quick drive became a both paradise and hell for me. The reason was because my adventurer side decided to choose an alternative route that was going to give nicer views. And it did! But as soon as I was getting higher and higher and the roads narrower and narrower I started to get a bit scared. Specially because there wasn't any telephone signal so in case I was in an emergency I was alone in a very remote place. But I got very beautiful pictures!
Akaroa es una pequeña ciudad situada en la Península de Banks, solamente a menos de dos horas de Christchurch. Me acuerdo de que realmente no investigué mucho antes de decidir de visitar el area. Únicamente lo mire por encima en Google Maps y parecía que podría ser un destino interesante. Alquilé el coche y me fui para allá. Lo que primeramente se suponía que iba a ser un camino corto se convirtió en un paraíso a la vez que un infierno para mí. La razón fue porque elegí coger una ruta alternativa donde iba a tener mejores vistas. ¡Y las tuve! Pero tan pronto como empecé a subir cada vez más alto y las carreteras se convertían cada vez más estrechas, empecé a sentirme con un poco de miedo. Especialmente porque no había señal de teléfono, así que si me pasaba algo estaría solo y en sitio remoto. ¡Pero lo logré y pude hacer fotos increíbles!
Even just the roads were beautiful to drive. I was constantly stopping to take pictures of places like these.
Incluso sólo con las carreteras era un lujo conducir. Estaba constantemente parando para hacer fotos como esta.
And finally I arrive to Akaroa. As soon as I got there I felt the good vibes of it. Such a laidback and tranquil place! Sadly, I was travelling alone at the moment, so I felt a bit lonely since there were mainly couples and families, but it was for a reason, the peacefulness. I went to my hostel to get my gear out and start taking some pictures. The area was very easy to walk around, you only walk one side of the lake. But that it is an easy and short walk does not mean that you don't have good photography spots. As soon as you start walking you see other things like boats, benches and piers that with those mountains in the background make your pictures look incredible.
Por fin llego a Akaroa. Nada más llegar pude sentir las buenas vibraciones. Era tal la tranquilidad que se sentía... Tristemente yo estaba viajando solo en ese momento, así que me sentí un poco solitario ya que principalmente estaba lleno de parejas y familias, pero por esa misma razón, por la calma que se respiraba. Me dirigí directamente al hostal para preparar mi equipo y empezar a hacer fotos. El área era muy fácil de caminar ya que sólo había un lado del lago por el que caminar. Pero que fuese sencillo no significa que no hubiese sitios impresionantes para la fotografía. Cuando empiezas a andar y ves esos barcos, bancos y puertos con esas montañas de fondo, te das cuenta que las fotos se ven increíbles.

¡Y si encima los pájaros se alinean y posan para las fotos, te hace mucho más feliz tu trabajo!
I actually calculated the time so on my way back I was able to catch the sunset and have the opportunity to have similar pictures with different colours. I remember being a bit angry because when I started the walk I had a perfect weather, but little by little it was getting cloudier. Still with beautiful colours though.
Realmente, calculé el tiempo para poder disfrutar del atardecer en mi camino de vuelta para así tener la oportunidad de hacer fotos similares pero con colores diferentes. Me acuerdo que me cabree un poco porque cuando empecé a andar el cielo estaba despejado, pero poco a poco se estaba poniendo cada vez más nublado. Aunque con muy bonitos colores todavía.
But suddenly, the clouds stopped and as the sun was going down it was creating a trail of light that made feel like I was in heaven.
Pero de repente las nubes se pararon y el sol en su camino para ponerse, creó un rayo de luz que me hizo sentir como si estuviera en el paraíso.
If you play with what luck gives you, you get even better pictures. In this one I tried to match the halo that the sun was giving me with the tip of the hut.
Si juegas un poco con lo que la suerte te da, logras fotos mucho más bonitas. En esta intenté conectar el halo de luz que el sol me brindaba con la punta de una caseta.
I was also lucky that there weren't many people so I was able to get pictures of empty piers with the beautiful sunset in the background.
Tuve mucha suerte de que no había mucha gente y pude conseguir fotos de puertos completamente solos con un impresionante atardecer por detrás.
