We wild harvest all of our chaga. I spotted some while driving into the driveway, and decided to collect it. Forgetting that we have had more snow this year than past. So I grabbed my ladder, hatchet and dog and off we go.
The dog was no help he kept running into my legs, he is a healer after all. So after trudging through waist deep snow we finally got to the tree. Seeing it from a distance it looked lower, it was at least 12 feet up the tree. And I brought the 5” ladder. Standing on the vary top of the ladder with my leg around the tree for balance.
We came back with a mighty haul of 1lb wet chaga. After cleaning all the bark off of it. I chop it into smaller chunks. I then place these chunks in a pie pan and place them on the fire bricks that line the top of my wood stove to dry.
