We all have what we regard makeup as and for me, it is never about hiding my natural face or who i am, it is all about how i feel and listen to myself. somedays, it is just lip gloss and brows and some days it will be bold and well defined eyes and i am not doing it or ever doing it to impress anyone.
Growing up between south africa and nigeria really shaped my ideas concerning beauty in ways i did not understand at first because of my introvert life but gradually as i started wearing makeup and started showing my friends and they started giving me compliments that gradually improve my confidence and i started taking makeups more seriously.
There was room for me to move slowly and after moving to lagos nigeria, i was introduced to a place where girls are always on makeup from going to church, work, parties and this introduced me to faster rythym where confidence in yourself shows before speaking does.
There was a time and i know when we were young as a girl, we always feel the adult women are doing too much when it comes to their makeup and it feels their makeup are being too loud, but as i grew up i discovered makeup is not just a mask but i realized it is a way to make us bring our true natural tones and this requires efforts and not just any efforts but a precise one because a bad makeup can ruin someones day.
Makeup for me is emotional and it reflects my moods, my thought, my feelings, in general it tells what i am going through.
Now that we are living in a world where women are judge based on everything and they tell us what we have to put on and what we do not have to put on and this has made us to be more thoughtful when we are going out because hearing people talking abou you while walking pass, can ruin the entire day. because of this, there is more pressure nowadays even though we wear make up for ourselves and not for anyone approval but is annoying what people say behind us.
I have come to realize that makeup is part of me and i wear it because i feel good about it and i do not need approval from anyone even sometimes what they say get to me, i will never change because of what a stranger say.
