Today I found a new species of mushroom. I mean, this is different than any collection of wild mushrooms I've ever found before.
I've seen porous mushrooms in medium and large sizes many times, but these were so tiny I would have almost missed them if I hadn't tripped over a piece of wood where they grew.
Based on search results on Inaturalist.org, I found the scientific name of the mushroom is Panellus luxfilamentus , which belongs to the family Mycenaceae .
What is the common name of this mushroom? Unfortunately, no information is available about it. I think it doesn't really matter because knowing the scientific name is enough.
But I have an idea to call it the wild taro chips. It was my favorite snack when I was a kid. How do these snacks look? You can see it in the appearance and texture of the pores of this mushroom. That's so similar.
Physically, the mushroom is actually milky white, not cream like in the picture. This happened because, when I took pictures, I deliberately left the mushrooms exposed to sunlight because the environment where I found them was too dark to take pictures without a flash.
