Science Street and My Thoughts on Education /// Fen Sokağı ve Eğitim Üzerine Düşücelerim
Hello Friends
Last year, my teacher friends and I did a very nice work in our school. We made the first floor of our three-storey middle school building a science street. Our aim was to attract the attention of the children and to ensure that they constantly see basic information. As you know, people can retain much more than what they hear and see.
Making the science street was more tiring than we thought. First of all, the walls had to be painted. We didn't hire a painter for this. There were a few people who knew what they were doing. Thanks to their guidance, we could all become master painters :) But while we were not yet master painters, it turned out how difficult the work was. Some of the old paint had started to blister. First of all, it was necessary to sand those parts. We started from here with the tools we obtained from the village. Then we applied two coats of paint.
After the painted walls dried, everything would be easier. So we thought :) Fortunately, there were a few people among us who had a high level of painting talent. With their guidance, we could all have become painters. No! We didn't make it :) But we were still not bad. We were good enough to go over the images we projected on the wall with a pencil :)
After the drawings, the painting process started. Images and shapes were to be painted with acrylic paints. We painted. We enjoyed the beauties that emerged as we painted. And at the last stage, we glued the wallpapers and aphorisms on the walls.
On the next floor, although not as flashy as the science street, we have a Turkish street. Actually, it would be more accurate to say the beginning of the street. It consists of a few posters and a board where students exhibit their works. We want to expand it over time. I hope we can achieve this in a good way thanks to the experience we have gained downstairs.
And finally, I would like to end my article by mentioning a few thoughts about education. Children's brains are shaped according to the environment they are in. The subconscious receives the necessary messages and the consciousness implements them when the time comes. One of the most valuable things I have discovered in my teaching life is this strong relationship between the conscious and the subconscious. If we want to raise people who are suitable for the changing world, we should give importance to this issue. Children are frequently exposed to negative messages from the internet and television. There are many things that need to be done to mitigate or reverse this situation.
I hope the children who will manage and shape the world of tomorrow are raised in the right way. In this age of individualization and mechanization, it is possible to achieve this by instilling both moral and scientific values in them. We cannot succeed if one of the two is missing...
