Yesterday I read my favorite nomad author gave an advice to a person considering quitting his job to wander abroad: "Carry as many books as you can (on Kindle and through digitization) and aim to read a whopping 1,000 books a year!"
I cannot say why but this goal of "1,000 books a year" resonated with me, making me want to give it a try. It's 2.74 books per day. I haven't done the exact math, but my current rate of 10-20 books per month is far from enough. That's challenging!
If I were to rely solely on silent reading with my eyes, it's strenuous due to the strain on my eyes from reading Japanese books on Kindle or computer screens, and the pace feels daunting. I once took a photo-reading course and I think I have a good speed of reading, but that aside, it seems a good strategy would be to listen to books at 1.2x speed on Kindle+iPhone, while reading books with a lot of visuals with my eyes.
When I searched the internet for "1,000 books a year," I was surprised to see quite a few results. It seems there are indeed people out there taking on this challenge, making it seem not entirely impossible.
Is this just playing with numbers, or is there something awaiting once the challenge is met? For starters, I'm thinking of removing the budget limit for books this month. Let's see how many I can read!

Hive Blogの投稿が少し開いてしまいました。相方がコロナ陽性で、私は陰性なのですが、秋休みの子供とマインクラフトをしながら仕事をしながら過ごしています。
私は高城剛さんをきっかけに2000年代後半にノマドに憧れはじめ、ノマドになり、最近彼のメールマガジンを購読しはじめました。金曜日に配信されるメールマガジンには、毎週何らかのおもしろい発見があって、昨日配信された最新号では、仕事をやめて海外放浪をしようかと考えている人に対して、「持てるだけの書籍を持って（KIndleと自炊）、いまこそ年間1000冊読破しましょう！」とアドバイスしていました。
理由はよくわからないのですが、この「年間1000冊」が私には刺さってやってみたいと思いました。単純に365日で割ると1日2.74冊。きちんと数えてはいませんが、今の1ヶ月に10-20冊くらいでは全然足りません。俄然チャレンジ精神がわいてきます 😁
普通の目を使った黙読だけだと、私の場合日本語の書籍はKindleやコンピュータの画面で読むので目によくなく、スピード的にもきついです。一応フォトリーディングの講座は若かりし頃にとってはみたのですが、それでも。Kindle+iPhoneの1.2倍速で本を聴きながら、ビジュアルの多い本は目で見て読むというのがよさそうです。
インターネットで「年間1000冊」などと検索してみると、意外とページが出てくるので、やっている人はどうやらいそうで、完全に不可能というわけではなさそうです。
単なる数字遊びなのか、それとも読んだら何かが待っているのか、わくわくしますね。まずは今月は本の予算のリミットを外してみようと思います。さてさて何冊読めるでしょう！
