A day at the beach

19 May 2024

AS a photographer, I am often found with a camera glued to my hand, capturing the world around me through my lens. It is honestly second nature to me at this point and most days I tend to find myself not quite living in the moment but rather living through the lens of my camera. Even on holidays, I spend more time trying to capture that gorgeous photo than actually enjoying the time off.

So on this particular day of our family holiday I made the conscious decision to step away from my routine and leave my camera in my bag and enjoy the ocean. The sea, waves and sand all felt so good without the distraction of adjusting settings and framing shots. I spent some time playing in the sand and swimming in the bright blue ocean.

With all of that being said... I did snap a few photos... I just couldn't help myself. Some fisherman on the rocks, a beach-book-worm buried in a book, the waves crashing on the sand, a lighthouse and the trunk of a palm tree. I also got a shot of this beautiful whale mural painted on the wall of the building right by the beach we visited, isn't it amazing?

All in all, it was a simple, quiet day filled with pure quality time, sand castles and swimming. What is your favourite thing to do at the sea?
