Today is an special day, and I have decided to support my nephew (23)
Who was diagnosed with Autism since he was 2 years old...
The road is very hard for the parents as well as the children with Autism...
I have helped my sister as much as much as I could but I take off my hat to my sister and brother in law
As they have been through hell and back in trying to find the different methods to
help my nephew to be the man he is today...
While he will need supervision and prompting for the rest of his life,
Dan is capable of dressing and feeding himself and loves routines.
He also loves his numbers... for instance, I’d would need a calculator for the
following calculations : 1,327.478 + 13.827- 946 % 294 x 20 :
I would not have a clue and would take me a considerable amount of time to solve
This calculation, but Dan can look at it And give me the correct answer in 15 seconds flat.
His mind never ceases to amaze me.
He’s equally inclined with words and his best passion is road maps...
In order to remember people he meets, he associates each person with their address and
surrounding suburbs and he has memorized them all.
I vividly remember one time that my Brother in law had to take my Sister to hospital,
And I was asked to drive Dan to school...
I thought I knew how to get there but I ended up getting lost so, I asked Dan if he knew
how to get to his school...
He looked around for a few seconds then said “ that way” so I drove there slowly with him
directing me and he kept pointing and saying “that way” (he was still not familiar with right or left).
Then we got to school a few minutes later...
I was amazed... he’s a living, breathing GPS 😂😂😂.
Anyway, today, I want to praise and support Dan and every person who
has Autism with my post today and by wearing blue as my way of supporting them
Hope you find it in your hear to wear something blue for then too.
Cheers
A
