It's been a long time since I don't post about Data Science, Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence. Today I passed a certification exam and I have officilly become an Azure AI Engineer. It was a tough one, I wasn't expecting it to be so hard. The good part of it: I don't remember the last time I had to actually think throughly a problem and solve it with just a couple of minutes in my hand.
For some reason, this certification make me think about all my past history regarding studies. I think universities will eventually disappear - or at least they are going to be re-invented - somehow. Anyways, I wanted to share some tips with you on how I would re-learn machine learning if I had to. I think it could be useful for people who are trying to merge the fields of AI with blockchain technologies.
First of all, I started learning Machine Learning in university, I had an entire course for it. As I mentioned, univeristies will be changed and knowledge is ever becoming more accessible. The only thing I believe was very useful from university times is the guidance that you receive regarding what you should study first and how you should build and develop certain projects. Most of the subjects I had to undertake before starting with ML were, for example, calculus or statistics, and most of the time you were only studying to pass or to obtain a good grade, but you would unlikely be able to take the raw knowledge an use it in real life.
As everything was a bit “fixed” (in my opinion), I was a bit skeptical to go to online resources and learn from it, I would get a bit lost because it was difficult to transfer the online knowledge to the exams.
Some time passed and then real life experience hit me in the face and I had to adapt quickly, and that always kept me thinking “oh, if I would have just done this course earlier” -> overall thinking for all the online courses I did after. I was probably lacking practice because I focused too much on exams and grades.
If I could go back to my first years in University I would have taken the advantage of the guidance of what I have to learn and I would learn and practice from available online resources.
