Attention is "Paid?"

Just a thought I had:

• "Please pay attention."
• "Pay attention?"
• "Attention is PAID?"

When I thought about it that way, I know how hard is it to be attentive sometimes. It's hard to pay your money, why paying your attention would be any easier?
