In several international forums, the South American countries that make up the Andean Region have raised the need to develop future plans for international cooperation, which should be oriented towards strengthening the operational capacities of conservation programs and sustainable uses for the genetic resources of the Guava fruit crop, where multiple hybrid varieties may exist.
▶ These programs should also favor technology transfers, particularly biotechnology for the conservation of genetic resources of the Guava fruit crop, since there are negative effects of limiting factors such as: white spot, apical rot, nematodes, salinity, among others.
For example, in Venezuela in the last three decades in the Maracaibo Lake plain, producers were forced to move guava crops from the plain to the southeastern part of southern Lake Maracaibo.
In this sense, the guava cultivars were genetically identified taking into account that there are different shapes, sizes and colors of the organs of each plant, so they were studied for morphological variants.
Fundamentally, these studies are done because it is known that in the propagation of this crop by seeds, morphological, physiological and biochemical variability has been found in the germplasm located in different geographical areas, hence the need to carry out studies with germplasm banks and observe that there is indeed genetic diversity in the hybrids to be compared.
Consequently, germplasm banks in both developed and underdeveloped countries, as in the case of the South American countries that make up the Andean Region, should consider and develop research trials specifically aimed at genetic diversity studies.
