You can try a few different species of mushrooms safely from supermarkets. The flavors can be somewhat different. You can definitely get a more diverse experience from wild mushrooms, but you should absolutely know what you are doing or trust an expert to identify the edible ones. I don't think phone apps alone should be trusted for something this serious.

Some companies also sell mycelium in bags ready to sprout at home, which can yield a lot of mushrooms in a very economical way.
