This is such a well written article. It gives us all the facts, anchors them to references, and yet is entirely accessible. Lay readers (me) can process the information and use it in our own lives.
I've read a lot about post-traumatic stress and find that you highlighted the most important aspects. Although this may not be the place to share personal experiences, why not? So I'll give you a bit of mine.
When I was not yet in school (in other words, very young) my older brothers would lead me around a forested mountain (that was our playground) and I'd never have any idea where we were. The boys had a lively sense of humor. They would leave me alone in the forest until I screeched in panic. Then they would return and collect me. They thought this was hilarious and would be bent over in laughter. To this day I have a fixation with maps :)) There is likely a strong connection between being lost, over and over again, and loving maps.
What a positive outcome, though. I'm an excellent navigator. Never use GPS. Just look at a map and figure out where I am and where I want to be.
Thanks for a great article.
