Bump in the road? We are stricken here, those of us who have any sense of history. We search for a rationale.
Our mistake is looking for a rationale. There is a reason, though--the man is driven by impulse and impulse is motivated by self interested. He has a pathological combination of a wounded ego and a grandiose ego.

The people in my country have given this man power. Can you imagine handing virtually unlimited power to someone with pathological drives. Oh, we don't have to imagine it. It's here.

Nobody knows how this will end. We know how it began. We see the process now. How will it end? The upcoming elections will be the best indication of the future. If we are allowed to have elections (open question), then maybe people in this country will set things right. Maybe we'll have a legislative branch that does its job.
