I love zombie movies. They offer a vacation from the real world. It's an invitation to suspend disbelief. However, some zombie movies are quite serious: 28 years later, for example. The best zombie movies offer an opportunity to deal with life's most profound questions.

Mostly, I don't pay attention to ratings. Reviews sometimes are revealing. At least I can tell if someone is looking for the same qualities in a film that I am.
