I missed this when it came out, @meno. You talk about Peru and Equador but readers may be thinking, "Yes them, but not my country". Unless we force the blinders to stay on our eyes, we have to see the truth of your words. Think of something as simple as the American Western. I grew up with savage 'injuns' scalping innocent settlers. That was truth for me and generations. Look where we are now. In just the space of 30 or 40 years most of us know the truth. We know that as children, as a nation, we were sold a bill of goods that endorsed a policy of exploitation and genocide.
This truth has been repeated across the world, across time. Which tells us, once again, how important it is that we have information. That we have access to a true record of history, and of our government's (any government's) actions.
Great blog. I didn't know about that entrenched hostility between Equador and Peru.
